- Click on the “Help” menu in The Journal.

TIP: Recovering a Deleted Entry from a Backup
Currently, there is no built-in “undo” for deleting an entry from your journal. As of The Journal 6, though, recovering an accidentally deleted entry has become very simple. You just need a backup file created by The Journal (.tjbackup) *before* the entry was deleted.
The default folder for your TJ6 backup files is:
My Documents\The Journal Volumes\6\.Backups
The steps to recover a deleted entry from a backup file are:
1. Click on the File menu, Import sub-menu, and choose the appropriate “Sync from Backup File …” command.
2. Browse to select the most recent backup file (from *before* you deleted the entry).
3. Under “What would you like to synchronize…”, choose: “Categories & Entries”. You can un-check the other options. Then click “Next”.
4. On the “Map Import/Sync Categories…” page, you should see all of your categories on both sides, and all of them mapped automatically. Click “Next”.
5. The sync process will analyze all your entries and find the deleted entry (and possibly other entries that have been added or changed since the backup file was made).
6. If there possible conflicts, you’ll need to resolve those. What this means is that for each entry conflict, you have to choose one of the following:
- Import the entry from the backup file, overwriting the current entry; or
- Keep the current entry (discarding the entry in the backup file).
Once you’ve done that, you can click “Next”.
7. Run the synchronization. That will copy in the deleted entry.
Of course, you can also use the “Sync from Backup File” and other “Sync from …” to keep 2 installs of The Journal in sync. We’ll discuss that in detail in a future tip.
