Introduction
April showers (and a bit of April thunder) have arrived here in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It’s wet out, and still a bit cool, but it’s all good. Except that bit about having to mow the lawn. =)
This month’s tip describes The Journal’s new external entry link feature, and we have some new writing prompts.

To see if you have the latest version of The Journal:
- Click on the “Help” menu in The Journal.
- Choose “Check for Update of The Journal”.

TIP: External Entry Links
You can now link to entries in your journal from other software using The Journal’s new “external entry links” feature. For example, you could insert a link to one of your entries in a MS Word document.
With external entry links you can also link to an entry in a separate user or Journal Volume. Regular entry links can’t do that. So if you have multiple user logins and Journal Volumes in The Journal, you can now link back and forth.
In either case, when you click on an external link, Windows will start The Journal (if necessary) to process the link and show you the entry. If your journal has a password, you will be required to enter the password.
To create an external entry link:
1. In The Journal, bring up the entry you want to link to.
2. Click on the Entry menu and choose “Copy External Entry Link to Clipboard”.
3. You can then paste that link into the other software, or into “Insert Link” in The Journal’s entry editor.
The external entry link looks like this:
thejournal://{Journal Volume Name}/uid/{user ID}/cid/{category ID}/eid/{entry ID}
NOTE: External entry links won’t work in other software if The Journal is installed in a cloud folder or on an external hard drive. This is because The Journal has to set itself up in the Windows Registry to process those links.
Writing Prompts
Free Writing Prompt – Write for 20 minutes using the following as your starter: “Link Bait”
Journaling Prompt – Why does it rain on Sundays? Or did we just pick the wrong name for the day?
Memoir Prompt – Covers, reboots, and remakes seem to be happening everywhere. How many songs of your formative years have now been covered by new artists? How many movies that you watched on first release have been remade or rebooted? List them and describe how the new version affected you, good and bad. Did you like new version more than the old? What did the new version improve and/or get wrong, in your opinion?
