Welcome to my photo blog!
My name is David “RM” Michael, and in May 2005 I bought my first digital camera. The camera is a Nikon D70s using a Nikon 28-200mm lens, and I love it!
Update 29 July 2008: Now shooting with a Nikon D700. Full frame, baby, yeah! 🙂
I actually bought my first camera for an independent game project, which I still plan to pursue. I wasn’t going to be able to start the project immediately, though, because of schedule conflicts–and because I needed to have at least some skill as a photographer to pull it off. So I’ve been shutterbugging almost non-stop, learning how to use the camera, and learning how to take pictures. In fact, the life of my family has been more thoroughly documented the past 6 weeks than at any time other than the birth of a child.
I’ve learned a lot in the last 6 weeks. My earlier stab at becoming an amateur photographer, back in 2001 just after Serene was born, got stymied because of the cost of developing film, and frustration with the slow pace of taking pictures, reviewing the results, and just not being too impressed with my early efforts. A digital camera, though, is great in that it lets you practice and practice and practice, for very little cost per picture. I’ve been able to shoot variations of almost every picture, and see which one worked, and which ones didn’t, very quickly.
My plans for this photo blog are:
- Create an online photo album for the perusal of the extended family.
- Track my progress as a photographer.
- Chronicle life in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
And probably more, as it comes to me.
Enjoy!
-David
